"The ultimate sound of the feet". This area of dance combines numerous steps & combinations which teaches students to work on sound quality of the feet as well as develop & enhance coordination, character and sensational rhythm. Classic tap steps are used to build a range of tap progressions that travel across the floor and lead to center floor combinations executed to music or a cappella. Younger students at THE DANCE CAMP are encouraged to study this area until the approximate age of seven. Tap classes for our tots who dance Weds or Thurs require pink leather ballet shoes for girls in addition to their tap shoes for creative movement & preballet activities. A more liberal type of dance; jazz dance incorporates the unlimited movement of all body parts with an emphasis placed on a warm-up which includes isolations, stretching, and progressions across that floor which include various types of kicks, turns, leaps, jumps and fun dance combinations to encourage style, precision, energy, and expression. The style of jazz may vary upon the instructor or theme of the combinations (funk, theatrical, lyrical, etc). REQUIRED JAZZ DANCE ATTIRE: girls-black leotard, pink tights barefeet. The valuable treasure for any good dancer, this very structured discipline which dates back to the reign of King Louis XIV is the foundation for all other areas of dance training.
Ballet serves to develop balance, posture, alignment, flexibility and expression and is a requirement for any "Dance Camp student" who would like to be considered to perform in additional works. Children's Tot Class
Created for the preschooler, this class is generally split to include tap dance and creative movement as children learn to perform through song & dance combinations in front of parents and students. With the participation of our Studio Assistants, creative expression, and dance are nurtured with the use of props and theatrical music. For many preschoolers, our tot classes are an additional learning environment which emphasizes the alphabet, numbers, annunciation & coordination. Fun tumbling exercises are also implemented for this group to encourage social and motor development. One of the hottest trends in dance today! This urban dance style from the streets of the Bronx brings every facet of dance styles to the classroom! Beginning with a cardiovascular warmup, this area of dance combines exciting movement combinations to "old school","new school" hip hop and gospel music without boundaries as a result of the artists' creativity. Our instructors & guest teachers bring their skills of movement & choreography that can inspire our students to develop their own style of spontaneous, gestured, or prearranged movements. (offered to students ages 8 and older with required dance attire of solid black sneakers, solid black pants & purchased studio Hip Hop shirt)
The area of study that allows the freedom of unrestricted methods & styles of movement and its relationship to gravity. Modern dance can incorporate unlimited styles, moods, or theories for its basis in creativity. Lessons in spatial awareness, Arm swings, Leg swings, floor rolls, and pedestrian movements are common with this dance genre. Originating in the early 20th century, modern dance has expanded in its acceptance to the credit of pioneers like Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, and Ruth St. Denis etc, who's movement vocabulary and/or technique helped to shape the belief that all movement can be considered an artistic movement.
Lyrical & Contemporary
With enormous emotion and the mood of the music, lyrical and contemporary dance requires proficient technique, flexibility, core strength and tremendous expression! Ballet is strongly recommended for longevity when taking this class.
